ABOUT NEONGRADE

Good times deserve a second look.

NeonGrade is an independent editorial publication about the games, gear, sound and style that refuse to stay in the past.

What we cover

We follow classic game hardware and new ways to enjoy it, from Nintendo 64 consoles and Game Boys to modern handhelds and FPGA systems. We also write about analogue sound, retro-inspired music, physical media and the clothes, objects and rituals that make a past era feel present again.

We are interested in more than specifications and release dates. A cartridge, a controller, a cassette deck or a windbreaker can carry a whole experience with it. Our stories connect the object to the way people actually use, remember and rediscover it.

Why we exist

The 1980s and 1990s gave us more than things to collect. They were decades of genuine novelty: game worlds opening up in three dimensions, technology becoming part of the living room, music finding unforgettable new sounds and culture feeling a little more carefree. NeonGrade exists to revisit that excitement—and to find the parts of it that still deserve to be enjoyed now.

Independent by design

NeonGrade is an independent publication. Our editorial choices are made for readers, not advertisers or manufacturers. We aim for clear sourcing, honest context and a little room for delight.
